The daily adventures of a team of lifeguards led by Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon at a Los Angeles beach, as they save lives, fight crime, and deal with personal dramas.


Season two begins with Mitch saving an underwater photographer, and events escalate as the team tries to do everything in their power to save lives while also navigating their own personal issues.


In this season, a woman from Mitch's past becomes his teammate, Matt must deal with surfers wanting to take over a part of the beach, while Stephanie and Mitch face off against deadly pirates to save Baywatch.


In Season 4, Mitch is bewildered and heartbroken when he discovers that his ex-wife has arrived in town and is preparing to remarry, while John DeCourt returns to the rescue team, only to discover that he has been struck by a serious illness that is causing him to lose his sight.


In Season 5, Stephanie begins to feel drawn to Riley, while a catastrophic earthquake creates many dangers for everyone, and the team strives to overcome it and take on new challenges.


In Season 6, Billy Capshaw arrives at the Lifeguard Center to get a job, but is given a bad reception by everyone who believes he caused Matt to leave the center.


In Season 7, Logan decides to change his life path from being a lifeguard, but things take an unexpected turn when a great white shark appears and attacks Cody and several other swimmers in the area.


In Season 8, a flood of recruits attempt to get into the cadet school, including Hope, Manny, and newcomers Lani McKenzie, who wants to become a professional dancer; April Geminski, a college student; and Skyler Bergman, April's roommate, who wants to be a paramedic.


In season 9, during the first week of fall, Mitch discovers that his shipboard marriage to Neely is invalid, and things get complicated when Neely's ex-husband suddenly shows up without his knowledge, making Mitch realize that Neely has been lying to him all this time.


The adventures of the team of lifeguards resume, led by lieutenant Mitch Buchannon. As he forms a new team in Hawaii, they begin their training and handle various tasks.


In Season 11, during training sessions for new lifeguards, Sean deals with Gina and other Hawaii officials who do not see the training center as a profitable venture.
