In the aftermath of the siege, new General Manager Ann Reynolds takes over, determined to discharge Will. An old Wentworth top dog, Lou Kelly, is sent back to prison with her transgender boyfriend, Reb Keane. After the birth of her baby, Vera contemplates going back to work.

After her return from the hospital unit, Lou tries to help Reb raise money for his gender reassignment surgery. With Marie left to take the fall, she desperately seeks to be transferred to general. Ruby tries to prove her innocence as Marie blows the whistle on Danny's murder.

The arrival of the British hacker Judy Bryant, a new inmate at Wentworth, has its effects on both the personnel and the prisoners. As Marie starts experiencing nightmares after her suicide attempt, she seeks Dr. Greg Miller's help. Reb panics as he can't get his HRT medication.

Ann decides to have the protection unit shut for good, after which she attempts to recruit Lou as an informer. While seeking to save Ruby's life, Marie appears as if she's trying to kill her, which leads to a violent confrontation with Allie.

As she desperately wants to get in touch with Rita, Ruby enlists Judy's help to hack into a government database and locate her. After getting the blame for ruining a presentation, Judy is sent to solitary confinement, where she receives punishment at the hands of Linda at Ann's behest.

As Will learns that Ann wanted to discharge him, he locks horns with her. Joan receives a cold welcome as she returns to Wentworth. Rita tries to save Ruby after she locates her captors, leading to a deadly confrontation, whereupon she asks Ruby to turn herself in as she resolves to run away.

As instructed by Ann, Lou protects Joan, who's brutally confronted by Allie. When Judy learns that she is to be handed over to the United States, she attempts to get in touch with her father, only to be rejected by him, whereupon she assaults Ann.

Following the assault on Ann, the prison is put on lockdown, upon which Judy informs Allie that the assault was carried out by Lou, who starts a riot. As Joan starts experiencing hallucinations, she resolves to stop her therapy sessions.

Cult leader Sheila Bausch's arrival at Wentworth shocks Lou and Reb as it is revealed that she was connected to the clinic in which they stayed. As Ann comes back to work, she learns that her attacker was Lou, which she doesn't believe. Joan ends up in the hospital unit after being drugged by Allie.

As Lou's phone and the money raised for Reb's surgery go missing, Lou suspects Allie, whom she viciously attacks, but Marie manages to save her. Lou confronts Joan, forcing her to revisit a past trauma. Vera attempts to hurt Joan, which causes her to have a mental breakdown and regain her memory.
