Sarah moves her wife and son Fraser to a seaside town to begin a new life after being appointed the new commander of a military unit in Italy. Until he meets Caitlin, he doesn't seem to be interested in interacting with the other teenagers on base.

Caitlin decides to express her gender identity and quarrels with her father, Richard. Fraser later learns Caitlin's secret, which irreversibly alters their relationship.

After Sam and Caitlin split up, a rift starts to emerge among the friends. Caitlin faces criticism for spending more time with Fraser, while Sam turns to Britney.

Craig unexpectedly pops the question to Valentina, his Italian girlfriend. His friends combine their resources for a Hawaiian-themed wedding, determined to send him off with a farewell he won't soon forget.

The relationship between Sarah and Richard's wives grows stronger as their power struggle intensifies. Later, Caitlin approaches Fraser to help her make a daring declaration.

Sarah is overjoyed to hear that her son and Jonathan are becoming close friends. Richard gains insight into Caitlin's mind through a hunting excursion. Subsequently, Sarah gets a call that will change everything on base.

Because of their animosity toward Colonel Wilson, the friend group splits even more. Wilson is forced to make a tough choice when Richard's disobedience reaches a breaking point.

Caitlin and Fraser slink off to Bologna for a concert. Along the way, Fraser ultimately comes to terms with sharing a startling secret.
