After landing on Earth, an alien on a mission to eradicate mankind assumes the identity of Harry, a small-town doctor, only to discover that young Max can see his true identity, whereupon he's asked to examine the body of a dead man. Harry is surprised to see Max as his first patient at the clinic.

Harry thinks of a way to kill Max; meanwhile, the former, overcome by homesickness, attempts to fix his ship, after which a man falls to his death off a snowy precipice and is later found frozen on a part of Harry's ship.

Alien Harry finds the real Harry's corpse and hides it so it doesn't fall into the hands of the authorities; meanwhile, no one but Max's classmate, Sahar, believes his stories about aliens. Lisa kills a cowboy who blabbed about seeing an alien.

As Ben and Kate try to prove to Max that there's nothing wrong with Harry, they invite the latter to dinner. Sahar snitches Harry's keys of which she has copies made, and as she and Max sneak into Harry's cabin, they get knocked out by advanced extraterrestrial technology and are later found by Harry.

Isabelle, the real Harry's wife, turns up and is shocked by the behavior of Harry, who wants to divorce her. When Ben and Kate find out that Max snuck into Harry's house, Harry urges them to send Max to an institution outside the state, but Sahar manages to mediate a truce between Harry and Max.

After the mayor appoints a new doctor, Harry feels jealous; meanwhile, he keeps drugging Isabelle in order to look for his device. As General Eleanor Wright hires Lisa and David to investigate a strange object that appeared on military surveillance, they find Harry's invisible spaceship.

Harry falls into a state of depression after failing to pinpoint his spaceship, so Asta and D'Arcy try to help him snap out of it. As Harry talks Ben and Kate into not sending Max away, the latter helps him find his device, which turns out to be on a glacier.

After having followed Harry to the glacier, an accident renders D'Arcy unconscious, while Harry gets injured and is taken care of by Asta. Lisa and David arrive in the town. Asta tells Harry, whose wound got infected, that she found his device.

As Harry finds out that the device isn't working, he and Asta go to an alien convention to track down a rare metal to repair it. David and Lisa try to get close to Max to find out what he knows. After D'Arcy gets worried about Asta, she makes a startling discovery.

After repairing his device, Harry starts having second thoughts about his mission, whereupon he chides himself for forming human bonds. Ethan gets captured in place of Harry, who locates his spaceship and sets out to return to his planet, only to find that someone has tagged along.
