The story follows middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence who find themselves competing in martial arts again, long after their 1984 Valley Karate Tournament match.
While tensions remain between Johnny and Daniel after Cobra Kai's victory in the tournament, an old friend comes to visit Johnny to see if he can help train his students, so Daniel begins to double the number of his students on the Miyagi-Do karate team.
Miguel is fighting for his life, and Johnny is trying to come to terms with the trauma of the accident. Johnny and Daniel's relationship develops, while the Cobra Kai school decides to set rules to prevent the accident from happening again.
