After his parents die during the war on the Gaza strip in 1924, young Ahmed is adopted by Lieutenant Bourget, who takes good care of him, but as Bourget dies shortly afterwards, Ahmed is taken in by his adoptive father's friend, the unsympathetic Gassiaux.
