It sheds light on the exploitation of talented artists by people of wealth and influence. A theater troupe is evicted from its venue due to financial difficulties, and a circus owner appears, offering them work with an attractive salary. Pressured by need, they accept, only to later discover that they have been turned into clowns stripped of both human and artistic value.
