The work presents a number of different points of view from different people, each accusing the other of madness. Mrs. Frolla claims that Mr. Ponza went mad when he believed that her daughter, who was his wife, had died, while Ponza claims that Frolla could not accept the fact that her daughter had died and went mad because of it.
