The story follows the early lives of the famous Madagascar heroes Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo as they grow up at Central Park Zoo.

In season 2, the Madagascar heroes, Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, and Gloria the Hippo, resume their adventures in the rescue habitat at the Central Park Zoo.
In season 3, the gang resumes their adventures, including Alex heading to Coney Island and proving that there are perks to being little, and the arrival of Lucia the sloth causing Melman to become jealous, but then he must stop her from leaving the habitat.
In season 4, Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman embark on new adventures, including Melman fearing he won't be Kate's baby anymore after he loses his first tooth, so he goes on a hunt all over the city to get it back before Kate can replace him with another animal.
