As Saleema and her brother, Omar, live with their stepmother and stepdaughters as their servants, she is forced to get married. When her uncle decides to sell her father's library after his death, Saleema reads a book from the library and finds herself and Omar transported into another world.
After Saleema and Omar find themselves in the Land of Ostriches, she loses him. When one of the people of the city follows her, Mawkous rescues her and tries to help her find Omar and takes her to live in the house of the head gypsy, Mafatin, while someone attacks her at night.
Mawkous helps Saleema to escape from the police and tells her about the Land of Ostriches and that she was chosen to collect the chapters of the book. Saleema enters the palace as a singer at Princess Ahlam's wedding to search for Omar.
After the Sultan decides to make her the singer of the palace, Saleema agrees to get close to Omar, and she is exposed to funny situations due to her lack of knowledge of the city's culture, so Mawkous helps her to be aware of it.
After Saleema stops Ahlam from committing suicide, the latter treats her as a friend, so Saleema asks her to see Omar. The king suspects that his food is poisoned, while Umm Al Oreif reveals to him her knowledge of his brother's murder and warns him of his nephew's threat to his throne.
The king orders that his nephew be found and killed. Namis discovers that Saleema is the stranger who is a threat to the city, so she and Mawkous escape before being arrested, and they discover that Mawkous is the king's nephew through a message in his mother's chain.
The king orders a fight with Omar to force Saleema to come to the palace, so she goes and wins the fight with the help of Mawkous, after which the king asks her to gather the chapters of the story to release Omar, and they are helped by Qut Al Qulub, the king's wife.
Mawkous accompanies Saleema on her journey to the Flower Kingdom to collect a new chapter for the story. After three dwarves catch them near the kingdom to fulfill their requests, they give Saleema the golden rose so that she can enter the kingdom.
Saleema enters the Flower Kingdom with Mawkous, who is disguised as a woman. After the Queen, Lady of Al Onouf, is pleased with the golden rose, she agrees to let them stay in the kingdom and tells of her suffering from bullying because of her big nose.
The king sends Salqat and Mulqat to the Flower Kingdom to monitor Saleema, while Mawkous sneaks into the queen's room to search for the chapter of the book, but he fails when Atiqa enters the room, and Saleema tries to win the queen's trust to reach the book.
Sultan Tamaan tricks the queen into marrying him in order to steal the chapter of the book. As Saleema and Mawkous are found out, the queen orders them to be imprisoned, but Atiqa smuggles them, and they try to warn the queen against Tamaan's deception.
As the queen decides to arrest Tamaan, Umm Al Oreif hides him. After Abu Al Onouf gives Saleema the second chapter, she searches with Mawkous for the third chapter, but they quarrel, so she arrives at the Sand Oasis alone, while he arrives in the kingdom and confesses his love to her.
After Saleema and Mawkous are arrested, they meet King Jahlan, whose wife is Princess Ahlam, so they are released because she knows them. Saleema helps the king solve his problems to gain his trust and find the remaining chapter.
Mawkous and Saleema drug Jahlan to reveal to them the location of the third chapter. After Jahlan refuses to help Tamaan take revenge on Lady of Al Onouf, he expels him and seeks the help of Umm Al Oreif, who gives them a poisoned apple as punishment.
Saleema finds the third chapter, and Namis deceives Tamaan, and returns the book to her, revealing his agreement with Qut Al Qulub against Tamaan. As Saleema and Omar return to reality, she refuses to sell the library, and she finds Mawkous' look-alike.
