The story takes place in a village ruled by a dictatorial mayor allied with a religious figure, Mawlana. The rebellious teacher Asaad arrives, bearing ideals of freedom and justice, only to clash with the mayor's authority. The mayor insists on marrying the young girl, Sarah, against her will. Asaad tries to save her, but is lured into killing the mayor and falls into a trap set by the villagers, led by Mawlana.
