Awad, the mayor's son, fails in all the tasks he is assigned, and tries to prove himself to his father, who forces him to work as a janitor in a building after distributing his estate to his sisters.

Awad travels to Cairo and takes up his job as a janitor in a building. Many problems arise between him and the residents, especially Badria, and the building owners seek to exploit him to evict the residents.

As Awad helps the maid, Nousa, in her work, he quarrels with Hamasa, the market thug, and causes a problem between the butcher Mansour and his wives.

Awad succeeds in gathering information about Karim and warns Hala about him. Awad causes trouble for the dancer Donia after her relationship with Galal is revealed, after which he is kidnapped in front of the building's gate.

It's revealed that Galal kidnapped Awad to take revenge on him, and when Awad returns to the building, he seeks to save Hala from Karim after the latter persuades her to leave her mother and live with him in the villa. Awad mends things between him and Donia.

As Salem robs the house of the jeweler Albert, Awad helps with his arrest on charges of theft. Mansour causes Awad to get into trouble with his father after staying up late at a nightclub.

Awad tries to help Fouad solve his problem with his son, who refuses to meet him, and he saves Fouad from a suicide attempt.

Hala tries to draw Awad's attention to her and tells him of her love for him, which makes Nousa feel sad and desperate because she is unable to reveal her feelings for him.

Nousa plans with Donia to make Awad jealous. As the lawyer Salah seeks to get Wafaa out of the apartment, he tells her about her daughter's relationship with Awad. He also tells Mansour's wives about his frequenting the nightclub and his philandering.

Awad ensnares Salah, while he helps all the residents of the building solve their problems. He returns to the village after confessing his love for Nousa, but his father’s insistence on his marriage to Abdel Mutal’s daughter makes him return to work as a janitor.
