A housewife named Dorothy "Dot" Lyon goes through an embarrassing and frightening situation, which leads to her arrest. After her bail is paid by her husband Wayne, she is kidnapped by criminals, but she manages to escape, then denies that she was kidnapped.
Roy Tillman, Stark County's constitutional sheriff, meets the criminal Munch, whom he hired to kidnap Dot, and reveals to him that Dot is his wife, Nadine, who vanished eleven years ago.
Roy asks his son, Gator, to cover up the death of the deputy and search for Munch, who sneaks into an elderly woman's house.
Gator and his team break into Dot's house wearing Halloween masks, but Dot recognizes Gator and defends herself, while her husband Wayne is electrocuted by one of the traps, causing the room to catch fire.
Lorraine hosts Dot and Scotty in her fortified home, and tries to force Dot to enter a mental hospital, but she attacks the guards and gets away before confessing to Indira that her ex-husband is following her.
Roy has a confrontation with Dugger outside a strip club, forcing him not to sell his bank to Lorraine. Later on, he discovers that Gator and his men have kidnapped the wrong person, and FBI agents make plans to use Dot to trap Roy.
The son of the owner of the house where Munch is staying finds out about Munch living there. Gator follows the tracking device on Munch's car and shoots him, unaware that he missed the target, while Dot stops at a roadside diner after a long drive.
Roy kidnaps Dot and chains her in his ranch barn. Dot reveals to Gator that his mother, Linda, is alive, and witnesses Roy's men burying a body in a hole that resembles a place she saw in her dream.
Lorraine tries to get help from federal and state police forces, while Roy tries to defend the ranch, and Dot manages to escape amidst the chaos.
Dot shoots Roy, who decides to flee despite his wounds before the police arrive, while Munch makes a surprise visit to the Lyons' house in search of revenge on Dot for their first meeting.
