In summer 1979, Ester moved to Alta in Northern Norway to teach, hiding her Sámi identity. Visiting a protest against a dam, she discovers the fight is also against racism. After a confrontation, Ester joins her cousin and others in a hunger strike in Oslo, ready to take a stand.
