Due to the unstable social and political situation in Europe, a Swiss family living in London embarks on a journey to leave and immigrate to Australia. However, the ship carrying them is wrecked and they are thrown onto a remote island, so the family begins to build a new life using the supplies and livestock that were rescued from their ship.
