In Scotland, after the end of World War II, Major Jock Sinclair, a rowdy battalion commander, is replaced by the stern Lieutenant Colonel Basil Barrow. Resentful of his replacement, Sinclair works to undermine Barrow's authority and discredit him among the soldiers. On the other hand, Barrow faces an uphill battle to restore discipline and the respect of his battalion.
