It tells the story of Mazyoun, the slave with the beautiful voice, and Dhabiya, the selfish daughter of a shipmaster, who is attracted to his voice. Despite gaining freedom, Mazyoun faces harsh discrimination, and is brutally punished when he proposes to marry Dhabiya, just because he dared to break class and social barriers, revealing the depth of racial injustice and inequality in society.
