When Djuwood called to tell Blondie he'd received a $2.50 weekly raise, the friends deduced it was $250 a week and expected Djuwood to pay for dinner. Djuwood was fired again, unable to pay for dinner, and got into trouble with the bookmakers, ultimately ending up in jail, where he was rescued by bank manager Samuel.
