An Iranian screenwriter, director, and actor, born on April 7, 1930 and raised in a poor area in southern Tehran, the eldest of three children. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force and became a freestyle wrestler in his twenties. He became a leading actor in Iranian cinema, and was known as the King of Hearts, after his lead role in an Iranian film of the same title Soltane Ghalbha.
