Dalia Saad |
An Egyptian poet of Turkish descent, born in 1892 in Cairo. He graduated from the Teachers' School in 1914, and traveled on a scholarship to Paris in 1922 to study oriental languages, especially Farsi, and returned in 1924 after obtaining a degree from the Sorbonne University. In 1918 he published his first poetry book, followed by a second and third collection in 1925. He received many accolades, including the State Merit Prize in Literature in 1967. Ramy fell into a state of severe depression after the death of Umm Kulthum, especially since his close friend, journalist and poet Saleh Jawdat, died before her, and before him Al Qasabji and director Ahmed Kamel Jawdat, after which he refused to write anything until he passed away in 1981. |
