Dalia Saad |
An Egyptian dancer and actress, born on November 24, 1907 in Damietta. She worked as an actress in Ali El Kassar's troupe, then as a dancer in Badia Masabni's in 1929, and she was nicknamed the 'Sultana of Love'. She was known for her close relationship with British army officers through their frequent visits to the nightclub where she worked, and legends were woven about her role as a spy for Germany against the Allies during WWII. She traveled to Europe and danced there, but the circumstances of the war brought her back to Cairo. She married director Mohamed Abdel Gawwad and had children with him. Her memoirs were turned into radio episodes during the 60s. Director Hossam El Din Mostafa made a film based on part of her life entitled The Spy Hekmat Fahmi, starring Nadia El Gendi. Hekmat died on June 28, 1974.
