Moroccan singer and composer born in Oujda in 1941. He trained as a clocksmith at his hometown but his true passion was music. In 1957, at 16 years old, he travelled to Cairo and enrolled at the Institute of Music there, where he learned the principles of music as well as playing oud. He met with songwriter Hassan El Mofti who wrote his first song which aired on the Egyptian Radio. |
