Lebanese singer and actress born in Beirut. Her grandfather was Sheikh Abdul Rahman Sallam Lebanon's former Mufti and her father was composer and oud player Mohie El Din Sallam. In 1955, she married singer Mohamed Salman and had children, and they separated 9 years later. She worked for Al Sharq radio and sang in front of an audience for the first time in 1948.
She then traveled to Cairo and worked with composers like Riad El Sonbaty and Mohamed Abdel Wahab. She lived in Damascus till 1953 and in 1956 she sang the famous song "The Most Beautiful Name in Existence". She founded a production company with Salman and he produced her Lebanese films. She settled in Egypt during the Lebanese civil war and then returned to Lebanon in 1991. She wore the hijab in 1998 but did not retire from singing.
