Biography

Mamoun AlShinnawi was born in Mansoura. He got a BA in law in 1936 and started his journalistic career in Rose al Yusuf magazine while he was still a student at the Faculty of Law. Then he went to Akher Sa’a magazine, then to Akhbar El Yom, then Al Gomhuria, where he edited his...Read more famous column The Heart Surgeon. His real beginning in songwriting was with the musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab, as Mamoun wrote the lyrics to the song You Are My Foe and My Time. He wrote about 1970 songs, some of which were sung by Umm Kulthum. He discovered many artists, including Hani Shaker, Ahmed Adawiya, and Yusra. He wrote only one movie, The Genius, which starred Ismail Yassine. He received a certificate of appreciation from the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat on the Fourth Art Celebration Day, in addition to the State Prize in 1980.
