An Egyptian poet and author, born to parents from a prominent family in the village of Al-Nakhila, in Assiut Governorate. He was nicknamed the Sheikh of Egyptian Authors. His work ranged from writing in newspapers, weaving azjals, writing songs and plays. He was an editor of the art section of the illustrated newspaper Al-Lata'f. The British suspended the performance of his play “It's Only Two Days” composed by musician Sayed Darwish and starring Muneera Al Mahdiya 17 times, because it contained harsh criticism against Britain. He also wrote the film Just As Requested (1937).
