Farid Fahd Farhaan al-Atrash born in Suwaydaa Mountain, Syria is the son of one of the Durzi "AL Atrash" clan leaders. His mother taught him to play the lute where the composer Fareed Ghosn tutored him. Fareed came from Lebanon to Cairo in 1923 accompanied by his mother and sister Asmahaan. He left his studies at Ecole des Frères Khoronfesh to work at Blanche Shop in Mousky as an ads distributor. Meanwhile, he studied music. He joined Badee’a Massabny troupe where he was appreciated by the audience as a lute-player and when he started singing there he was admired by Medhat ‘Aassem, the Egyptian radio musical observer who presented him to the radio through his song Wish I Were a Bird that hit success. Farid’s talent started booming as a singer as well as a giant musical composer. Among his everlasting songs are: O! Flower of My Thoughts, Spring and First Whisper. With Samia Gamaal, al-Atrash formed a successful cinema duet and also worked with other female stars. In almost all of his roles he was the romantic lead role, yet he was successful in playing light comedy roles in; I Want to Get Married and You Are My Love.
