He is an American actor of Mexican roots, and was born November 25, 1920 in Mexico. Montalbán starred in musical films during the 1950s, in the television series Fantasy Island between 1976 and 1984, and also in the satirical sitcom The Naked Gun in 1980. He was a star in Mexican films before the Metro-Golden Mayer company brought him to Hollywood to play the roles of Esther Williams in films such as: Neptune's Daughter, and On an Island with You. The actor had been wheelchair-bound since 1993 as a result of being injured while filming a movie years earlier. He also played several famous roles, including roles in the classic comedy-drama The Silver Line and the role of King Edward I in Mel Gibson's Oscar-winning film Braveheart. He also won an Emmy for his role in Peter Falk Columbo's detective series . He died January 14, 2009 in Los Angeles, California.
