An Egyptian journalist and writer, born in Zagazig, Sharqia Governorate. He moved between several schools in the provinces and Cairo, and eventually enrolled at the Law School in the late forties and obtained a BA in law in 1953. He worked as a lawyer for some time, then quit law...Read more and worked as an editor in El Tahrir magazine, and he was the first Egyptian journalist to conduct an investigation on slums, then he moved to the Radio magazine (later Radio & TV magazine), where he graduated in positions from an editor to editor-in-chief until he headed its board of directors. During his studies at law school, he wrote short stories and one-act plays, and published the University News magazine. He began writing novels in the sixties, and was influenced by Naguib Mahfouz. Some of his writings were turned into series and films, such as Al Mawardi Cafe, The Bars, and El-Monira Days. He was an advisor to the Minister of Culture and was awarded the State Merit Award. He passed away on January 23, 2010.
