Maryam was born in al-Fayyum and received her degree from the German school. Her full name is Maryam Mohamed Fakhr al-Deen and her mother is Hungarian while her father is Egyptian. Maryam won a competition hosted by a French magazine, this qualified her for a role in the cinema title “Laylat Gharam”. She married Mahmoud Zou al-Faqqar and featured in some of his movie titles. The couple had a daughter named Eman. The actress had outstanding performances in the movies of Fareed al-Atrash and portrayed the character of the kind and oppressed girl. The sixties saw her distance herself from cinema. Maryam travelled to Lebanon and married Syrian smusician Fahad Balan whom she worked with on several movies. Following their separation she returned to Egypt where she began portraying the roles of the mother. She married two more times and assumed one role following another. Maryam speaks five languages and has produced three films titled “Ranat Khulkhal”, “Rihla Gharamiyah” and “Anna wa Qalby” (“My Heart and I”). She is blessed with a beautiful face which saw her becoming a romantic icon alongside Farid el-Atrash and ‘Abd Al Halim. Maryam is among the most outstanding actresses to portray the role of the overwhelmed woman and following her retirement from major acting she assumed minor roles with pride as she began aging. Among her best roles were “Bella ‘Awdah” (“Without Return”) and “Fadeeha fee al-Zamalek” (“A Scandal in Zamalek”).
