Jaafar Ali was born in Baghdad in 1933. He graduated from the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad in 1956 with a BA in English Literature. He joined the American University of Iowa and graduated in 1961 with an MA in film and television studies. He became a voice teacher at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad. He worked as an acting teacher at the College of Fine Arts. He worked on the movies Clash of Loyalties ​(1982), Bird of the Sun [1991), and King Ghazi (1993)
