An Egyptian actress, filmmaker and musician. She was born in the Muharram Bek neighborhood of Alexandria in 1908. Her father was Ismail Muhammad Hafez, the head of the Royal Order during the reign of Sultan Hassan Kamel. She married an Iranian prince in 1925, then they separated and she returned to Alexandria. She obtained a diploma in composing music from the Paris Conservatoire, and composed the score for a number of films she starred in, including: The Accusation (1934) and Layla the Desert Girl (1937). She also co-directed The Victims (1932)
