An Egyptian composer, born in Cairo on June 14, 1916. His father was a maker of musical instruments, so he used to go to his father's shop after school, and there he would meet with great musicians like Mohammed Al Qasabji, Ibrahim Al-Qabbani and Fahmy Awad. He joined the Fouad...Read more Institute for Arabic Music, which later became the Institute of Arabic Music in 1932, and there he studied playing the violin. After graduation, El Hefnawi worked with singers Nadra, Fathiya Ahmed and Ratiba Ahmed. He first collaborated with Umm Kulthum in the film Wedad (1936), after which he joined her instrumental band and accompanied her in her tours all over Egypt, and he continued to work with her until her departure. He passed away in August 5, 1990.
