Mahmoud El Lozy is an Egyptian stage director, actor, playwright, and professor of drama and theatre at the American University in Cairo. After getting a B.A. and an M.A. in English and comparative literature from AUC, he moved to the United States where he earned his PhD in dramatic arts at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His writing on contemporary Egyptian theatre has brought special attention to the issue of censorship. His daughter is the actress Yousra el Lozy. He's starred in Ahmed Abdallah's first two features "Heliopolis" (2009) and "Microphone" (2010) and has co-starred with his daughter in "Koblat Masrouqa" (Stolen Kisses) and Youssef Chahine's "Alexandria... New York" (2004). His other film credits include "The Situation," Mohamed Khan's "Faress el Madina," and Maggie Morgan's independent ensemble drama "Asham" (2013).
