He graduated from the Faculty of Arts, Department of History, Ain Shams University in 1967, and received a Pre-Master's Diploma in 1968. He was a member of the Writers' Union, the Story...Read more Club, Cairo Atelier, the Writers Association, the Film Syndicate, and the Drama Writers Association. He was the recipient of the State Incentive Award in Literature in 1985 for the story collection Digging in the Brain. His novel, Shoq's Story, was chosen among the best hundred Arab novels published in the last century. His most notable work is the series The People of the Askar Hamlet, which was based on his novel of the same name. The series won the Golden Prize for the Best Arab Social Series at the 10th Cairo Festival, and six other Golden Prizes.
