He was killed on December 8, 2007 as he was about to enter his office in central Damascus, by being stabbed in the neck, back and heart 17 times.

  • He was married four times, as he married Iraqi actress Eltfat Aziz, with whom he had a son named Carmel. He also married actress Maha El Masri, with whom he had two kids, Tif, Reem. They lived together for nearly 10 years in Riyadh before they separated. In 2004, he married actress Norman Asaad, and they divorced in 2006. He married his fourth wife, the Syrian Maya Al-Takhin, who is the daughter of the Syrian ambassador to Germany, and they have a daughter named Ghada.
  • He was subjected to a planned assassination through fatal knife stabs while entering his company's headquarters in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
