A Syrian playwright, born in Aleppo in 1950. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic from Aleppo University in 1975. In 1981, he became a member of the Writers’ Union and then its secretary, and he issued his first two plays in Damascus in 1978. He has written plays for children, as well as novels, short story collections, and television scripts for popular soap operas. His first novel, "Shajarat Al Kalam" (The Tree of Speech), was published in 1990, and his novel "Al Qomqom Wal Jennie" (The Bottle and the Genie) was longlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2009. He received many awards, including the Arabic Fiction Critic's Award for the novel "Shajarat Al Kalam."
