In 1970, he joined the ranks of the Palestinian resistance in Beirut, established a film unit, and directed a number of films, including The Cold River. In 1976, he returned to Iraq and directed his documentary film The Marshes, then directed his first feature film Yonder Houses at the Alley, after which he was exiled from Iraq.
