An Egyptian author and historian, born on April 25, 1927. She obtained a BA in English Language and Literature, first class with honors, from Cairo University in 1948. Then she obtained a MA in English Language and Literature from Cairo University in 1954, then a Phd in the English Literature from Westfield College, University of London in 1957. Fatima won the State Appreciation Award in Arts and Letters, the highest award granted by the Egyptian government to academics. Fatima remained active until the end of her days. She continued to teach postgraduate classes at Cairo University, supervise doctoral theses, and run a government program for translation into Arabic. Among her translated works is the play King Lear. She died on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at the age of eighty.
