Christoph Waltz is an Austrian-German actor born in Vienna to a family steeped in the theatre tradition. Waltz tirelessly worked in German-language theatre and mostly made-for-television movies before getting his Hollywood break when he met Quentin Tarantino in 2009, at age 53. His portrayal of the terrifying, charismatic and multilingual SS-Standartenfuhrer Hans Landa in "Inglorious Basterds" was internationally acclaimed, and earned him the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Festival, a BAFTA, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award and the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2009. In total, he was nominated for 27 awards for this role. He collaborated again in 2012, playing the commanding Dr. King Schultz in "Django Unchained," which has earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, an award that he won at the 2012 Golden Globes. |
