Kristin Scott Thomas is an Ango-French actress with a distinguished and long career. She was born in Cornwall in 1960. Her father, a pilot for the British Royal Navy, died in a flying accident in 1964. Her stepfather, also a pilot, died similarly six years later. She left home at age 19 to be an au pair in Paris, then studied acting at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts et Techniques Du Theatre in Paris. Upon graduating, she was cast in "Under the Cherry Moon" (1986) opposite pop icon Prince. She came to prominence in the 1990s for her impressive performances in "Bitter Moon" (1992), "Four Weddings and a Funeral" (1994) and "The English Patient" (1996), for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress. She's worked on many a French production since the 1980s, in films like "Tell No One" (2006) and Philippe Claudel's heartbreaking masterpiece "I've Loved You So Long" (2008), for which she won British Actress of the Year at the London Critics Circle Film Awards. In 2012, she starred in "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" with Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor. Thomas is a prolific actress: she's churned out two or three films annually in the past few years. She was married to French obstetrician Francois Olivennes from 1987 to 2005. She has three children with him.
