Dawoud Sheikhani is one of the leading writers of drama in the Arab world. He is considered among the founders of the private television sector in Syria. He was born in Damascus and witnessed the prominent events of the time, including the demonstrations calling for independence from the French mandate.
In middle school, he won his first prize in a short story competition. He joined the Military College in Cairo, from which he graduated in 1961, holding a Bachelor’s degree in military sciences. He was sent abroad in 1967 and obtained a master’s degree in management and organization from the International Labor Organization.
He wrote many historical radio and television series and founded his own TV production company in Greece in 1977, which produced many Arab and foreign television series. His notable work from that period includes the series Four Years' War. In 1990, he moved his company to Damascus and presented his award-winning series Once Upon a Time in its four seasons.
