An American media personality, actress, and entrepreneur. Born on January 29, 1954 in Mississippi, Mississippi, to a very poor family, she decided to continue her education despite the difficulties she faced, until she became one of the first African-American students to study at the State University through an education scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Performing Arts, after which she began her career as a radio anchor at the age of 19.
By 1985, Oprah Winfrey's steps were moving towards becoming an actress, having co-starred in director Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple which was nominated for nine Oscars, after which Oprah received numerous offers for film and television performances.
But her life really turned upside down in 1989, after she started hosting the world's most popular talk show titled Oprah; a daily program that began to highlight social issues of interest to American society, which was exceptionally successful thanks to the overwhelming presence of its introduction and mode of dialogue, becoming an important worldwide media model, shifting its program over time as an integral part of American popular culture and related to all the details of their lives. This led to Oprah being announced as the second most influential person in the world according to Forbes Magazine in 2005, besides being one of the richest as well.
Oprah Winfrey hosted the last episode of her show on May 25, 2011 after deciding to step down once and for all to run her own satellite network OWN.
