Born on July 3, 1962, in a suburb of New York, to an electrical engineer and housewife mother, American star Tom Cruise's family life was unsettled by his father's constant movement across the United States to seek work. Cruz attended a Catholic boarding school. His first dream was to become a professional wrestler, but his knee injury broke that dream. He enrolled in school theater groups, became one of the stars of the theater at the school level, and discovered that he had a bold desire for acting. He began to go to artist agents and attend acting auditions, but all his efforts failed, and he spent all his money and became homeless. Eventually Cruise got a minor role in the 1981 film Endless Love starring Brooke Shields, after which Cruise gradually rose to worldwide fame. He's best known for the Mission: Impossible films, Jerry Maguire, The Last Samurai and Top Gun.
