William Hurt is a critically acclaimed American stage and film actor born in Washington, D.C. on March 29, 1950. He made his film debut in "Altered States" (1980) for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year. He's earned four Academy Award nominations, one of which he won for "Kiss of the Spider Woman" (1985), which also earned him a BAFTA for Best Actor. Hurt has remained a strong and active stage actor throughout his film career, performing in many Off-Broadway Shakespearean productions. He was nominated for the prestigious Tony Award in 1985 for the Broadway production of "Hurlyburly." Hurt has earned a reputation for his devoted, character acting, on display in David Cronenberg's acclaimed crime thriller "A History of Violence" (2005), which garnered him his fourth Oscar nomination. His other credits include "The Village" (2004), "Syriana" (2005), "The Good Shepherd" (2006), "Into the Wild" (2007), "The Incredible Hulk" (2008) and "The Host" (2013).
