Scarlett is the daughter of (Carsten Johansson) and Melena Sloan. Scarlett’s parents met in Denmark and it should be noted that she has an elder sister named Dorothy who is also an actress. Her other siblings are an elder brother named Adrian and her twin, Hunter, who is also an actor. She also has a half brother called Christian from her father’s side.
Scarlett Johansson’s acting career started when she was a child. Her mother used to take her to acting auditions and her debut was in “North” (1994) where she acted alongside Bruce Willis. Thereafter, she would assume several minor roles until she performed (alongside) Robert Redford in “The Horse Whisperer” (1998). This role has attracted a lot of attention to her talents.
In 2001 she assumed the leading role in “Ghost World” where her character was that of an adolescent girl that moved to Los Angeles from a small town and discovered a whole new world there. The film was a great success both as a whole and for Scarlett Johansson.
(In 2003 she won the best actress category at the Venice Film Festival for her performance in “Lost in Translation” where she acted alongside Bill Murray. The film was nominated for four Oscars in the categories of best film, best actor, best director and best screenplay. The director and the writer Sofia Copolla, the daughter of the noteworthy director Francis Ford Coppolla were to win their nominations. Moreover, Scarlett Johansson was awarded the Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy for her role in that same movie.
In that same year Scarlett Johansson was nominated for the Golden Globe award for best actress in a drama role for her performance in “Girl with a Pearl Earring”. She was also nominated for the category of best actress in a comedy.
Scarlett Johansson was also nominated for the British BAFTA awards that are equivalent to the American Oscars. Indeed, she won the BAFTA award for best actress for her performance in “Lost in Translation”.
In 2004 Scarlett Johansson assumed the leading roles in three films: “The Perfect Score”, “In Good Company” and “A Love Song for Bobby Long”. She was nominated for three Golden Globes for the best actor category for films that varied from comedy to romance to drama.
Later in 2005, Scarlett assumed a leading role alongside Ewan McGreggor in the science fiction title “The Island”. The film was directed by Michael Mann. Through these titles Scarlett has succeeded in demonstrating her ability to assume roles in drama, romance, comedy and even action.
Later that year Scarlett performed in the movie “Matchpoint” that was directed by the well-known director Woody Allen. This performance secured her Golden Globe nomination for best supporting (actor).
In 2006, Scarlett would work again with Woody Allen in the production of “Scoop”. Later that year she would work with the veteran director Brian De Palma in “The Black Dahlia”. As an appreciator of Brian’s work, Scarlett had long hoped that she would get an opportunity to work with him.
Also in 2006, Scarlett appeared in Christofer Nolan’s “The Prestige” where she would perform alongside Christian Bale and Edward Norton. Then in 2007, Scarlett assumed the leading role in the comedy film “The Nanny Diaries” and in 2008 she assumed a leading role alongside Natalie Portman and Erick Banna in “The Other Boleyn Girl”. She also did her third work with Woody Allen in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” which was filmed in Spain.
Scarlett Johansson has several other works which have not been released as of yet and it should be noted that in addition to acting, Scarlett sings as well and she has several musical works.
Scarlett Johansson has received 14 awards for different roles. She has also received 24 nominations for other awards, in addition to four Golden Globe award nominations. A final point on Scarlett Johansson is that she is a strong supporter of American president Barack Obama.
