Ben Affleck is an American performer who has enjoyed success as a heartthrob, a respected actor, a critically acclaimed director, writer and producer. This is a rare feat for anyone, let alone someone at the early age of 40. Starting out in commercials (for Burger King) and television, Affleck scored his first film role in the cult comedy "Dazed and Confused" (1993) starring Matthew McConaughey. He eventually became a household name with roles in "Mallrats" (1995), "Chasing Amy" (1997) and "Dogma" (1999). He won his first Oscar, as well as a Golden Globe, for "Good Will Hunting" (1997) alongside his partner and childhood friend Matt Damon. At age 10, Affleck met Damon in his childhood neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts, where they lived two blocks away from each other. Damon actually turned out to be Affleck's tenth cousin, once removed. As a leading man, Affleck has starred in hits such as "Armageddon" (1998), "Pearl Harbor" (2001), "The Sum of All Fears" (2002), "Hollywoodland" (2006), "State of Play" (2009), "He's Just Not That Into You" (2009) and "The Town" (2010). As a director, he's churned out riveting and critically acclaimed dramas "Gone Baby Gone" (2007), "The Town" (2010) and "Argo" (2012). "Argo" was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture. Affleck won the Golden Globe for Best Director for "Argo," although he was not nominated in that category for the Oscars. Affleck has been married to actress Jennifer Garner since 2005. They have three children. Before Garner, Affleck was romantically linked to Gwenyth Paltrow in 1998, then pop star Jennifer Lopez, to whom he was engaged until their split in 2004. In 2012, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon founded Pearl Street Films, their own production company based at Warner Brothers.
