Heath Ledger was an Australian actor, born in April 4, 1979 in Perth, Australia. At age 11, he showed great interest and talent in acting. He appeared in several Australian television and film productions between 1993-1997. His first American debut was in The Patriot (2000) with Mel Gibson. His notable works include A Knight's Tale (2001), Ned Kelly (2003), Casanova (2005) and The Brothers Grimm (2005). In 2008, he played the Joker in The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor posthumously, among other accolades. He died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs on January 22, 2008 in Manhattan, US.
