Julianne Moore (born Julie Anne Smith; December 3, 1960) is a British–American actress. After studying theater at Boston University, Moore began her acting career by appearing in television series. She was a regular in the soap opera As the World Turns, for which she earned a Daytime Emmy award. Her breakthrough role in film was in Robert Altman's 'Short Cuts' in 1993, which she followed by other critically acclaimed roles including Vanya on 42nd Street (1994) and Safe (1995). She also broke into Hollywood with roles in Nine Months (1995) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). By the late nineties, Moore received international recognition and awards consideration. She earned Oscar nominations for her roles in Boogie Nights (1997), The End of the Affair (1999), Far from heaven (2002) and The Hours (2002). Julianne's other notable roles include The big Lebowski (1998), Magnolia (1999), Hannibal (2001), and Children of Men (2006). In 2012, Moore received an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress, for her portrayal of Sarah Palin in the television film Game Change. She is married to the director Bart Freundlich, with whom she has two children.
