An Indian-American writer, director, actor, and producer, born in India in 1970, but raised in Philadelphia, United States. His passion for cinema began at the age of eight when he received a small video camera as a gift from his parents who worked as doctors. He made his first no-budget film, Praying with Anger, in 1992. But his real fame came in 1999 when he wrote and directed the film The Sixth Sense, starring Bruce Willis. The film was a success and received multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. Shyamalan was also nominated for a number of Razzi Awards, including Worst Director and Worst Screenplay for the movie The Happening (2008). His other notable works include Signs (2002) and Lady in the Water (2006).
