Fouad Haddad was an Egyptian vernacular poet born in Al-Zaher district, Cairo, on 30 October 1927. Born to a Lebanese Protestant father and a Syrian Catholic mother. His father graduated from American University, and came to Cairo and worked as a teacher at Cairo University. He is one of the pioneers of the Egyptian vernacular poetry, the next after Bayram Al Tunisi. Fouad Haddad was arrested in 1953 for political reasons after his release he published his first book "Free Behind Bars". He wrote the radio program From the Light of Fantasy and the Making of Generations that was presented in 30 episodes in 1969 by the composer Sayed Mekawy, in which he wrote the famous song The Earth Speaks Arabic. Some of his plays include: The Boogeyman's (1990), Why Are You Still Here? (2005) and Heart to Heart (2016)
